Spring Cleaning in August

Jul 2, 2015 | Past Dean's Columns

Jay Peterson and I have been using these summer months to do some ‘cleaning up’ of our member roster information. We have several databases with regard to our membership – ONCARD, our local directory, and our email blast list. As we worked through each meticulously, numerous conflicts were apparent. We cleaned up what we could, but now we need your help. I know that some of you may have moved since the last entry into our directory, and we’d appreciate that information in our chapter directory. While you may have reported that on ONCARD, we have no way of knowing that other than looking through each of our members’ profiles on ONCARD periodically, which would obviously be rather tedious.

In addition, one of the issues with ONCARD, the member data system that the national office is now using for member information, is that it does not offer as much information as we have historically had in our chapter directory. So for many of you, we may have either outdated or no information on where you work. We’re primarily interested in where you’re employed as an organist, as that is most useful and interesting for the membership. But we’d also like information on any additional employment if you’d like to offer that as well.

So please take a moment to look through your personal information in what is to become our most updated chapter directory in the fall at this link: NSAGO Directory 6-2015-working. And please email me (dean@northshoreago.org) if any information is incorrect or missing.

Americans will consume 818 hot dogs every second from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I’m not sure who figures these things out….but I do know that this is the season most of us take time out to do things outside the realm of music. If you haven’t been to a Cubs game,...

I like this quote by Martin Luther King that I recently read, “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve." Though as a musician, we might be content to just enjoy the experience of learning and performing beautiful music, often our responsibilities entail much...
