The task force selected three women composers: Elizabeth Stirling (1819-1895)\, introduced in the January issue of TAO; Grace Wiersma\, daughter of Dr. Roberta Bitgood\, organist\, composer\, and first female president of the AGO (1975-1981); and contemporary composer Martha Sobaje. DESCRIPTION:An invitation from Fox Valley\nOn Friday\, January 26\, at 7:00 p.m.\, the Fox Valley AGO chapter will present a concert with Dr. Jonathan Rudy\, and has invited members from the Chicago chapter to attend. The concert will be at St. Raphael Catholic Church\, located at 1215 Modaff Road in Naperville\, IL. \nThis concert celebrates the legacy of Len Berghaus\, who died in January 2023. The St. Raphael organ is the largest of his organs in the Fox Valley region. The St. Raphael organ is also turning 25 years old this year\, so Dr. Rudy will play many selections from the dedication program as well as some of Len Berghaus’s favorite pieces\, including selections by Willan\, Manz\, Bach\, Schumann\, and Mozart. \nA Gala Reception will follow the concert.

SUMMARY:AGO Regional Convention
DESCRIPTION:You can find about everything you and your members might be interested in knowing about the Convention on their very complete website.  It can be found at: https://grago2019.org/\n\n\nThe website lists the Artists\, Venues\, Exhibits\, Schedules\, Scholarships\, Registration\, the Host Hotel\, contacts\, etc.  About everything you would need to know.  \n \nThe are different Registration RATES based on how early you register.  (For example:  if you are an AGO Regular member the “early bird” rate on or before March 15 is $375.  After that date the price goes up to $425.  If you are a Senior—the “early bird” rate is $325; but will go up to $350 after March 15.  The price for AGOYO (young organists) is $300.  The price for NON-AGO members is $450.  (For the complete details and pricing look at their website.)\n \nAlso\, the convention hotel\, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel\, is a grand bargain—and up to four people can stay in one room for one very reasonable rate.  (It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.)  You can register for the hotel right on the Convention’s website.  \n \nIf you can come a day or two early\, or stay a day or two after the convention you will greatly enjoy the City of Grand Rapids.  There are many lovely parks and museums there.  Also\, the RYOC/Quimby Competition for Young Organists will be on Saturday June 29 starting at 1:30 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church–before the convention “officially” begins.\n \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to send them to me\, or Peter Kurdziel\, the Convention Coordinator @ chair@grago2019.org  or call/text him at 231-286-9708
