Dunton Street\, Arlington Heights\, IL 60004\nCREATIVE HYMN PLAYING\nADAPTING PIANO MUSIC FOR THE ORGAN\nOne of our most important jobs as organists is to encourage congregational singing with hymn playing that enhances the lyrics of hymns. In this workshop you’ll find tips on doing that through phrasing\, registration\, alternate harmonizations and modulations. Secondly\, as organists\, we’re all called on frequently to play music on the organ that was written for piano\, or transcribed for piano from an orchestral score. Erik Wm. Suter\, Gaithersburg\, Maryland. In commemoration of Maurice Duruflé’s death in 1986\, Erik Wm. Suter will perform the composer’s complete organ works. Suter\, a native of Chicago\, served as organist at Washington National Cathedral from 1998 to 2007. He holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University\, where he studied with Haskell Thomson and Thomas Murray respectively. He has held positions at Trinity Church\, Copley Square\, and at the Parish of All Saints\, both in Boston; and at Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven\, Connecticut.
