CREATIVE HYMN PLAYING
ADAPTING PIANO MUSIC FOR THE ORGAN
One of our most important jobs as organists is to encourage congregational singing with hymn playing that enhances the lyrics of hymns. In this workshop you’ll find tips on doing that through phrasing, registration, alternate harmonizations and modulations. Secondly, as organists, we’re all called on frequently to play music on the organ that was written for piano, or transcribed for piano from an orchestral score. In this workshop, you’ll hear tips on effectively adapting piano music—anthems, solos, orchestral transcriptions — to the organ. Contact: Sharon Peterson (speterson@igc.org).
