Barbara Anne (Schisewski) Mattes
Word was received recently regarding the death of Barbara Anne Mattes on May 1, 2022 at the age of 90. She earned a BM degree from the University of Dubuque and did graduate work in organ at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where she studied with Robert Lodine and Robert Rayfield at Indiana University.
She was organist/choirmaster at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Barrington and then later at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Elgin. She served on the Music Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.
She was very active in the works of the AGO by serving as the Dean of the North Shore Chapter AGO from 1971 to 1973 and was active in the Chicago Club of Women Organists.
