Calyx Ensemble “Te Deum”

The “calyx” is the part of a flower that protects, supports, and frames the petals’ beauty. The Calyx Ensemble of Evanston, IL, under the direction of Hannah Dixon McConnell and Robert McConnell, invite you to join with us in our second-ever undertaking, an epic and radiant concert for professional choir & organ in the style of a Grand Evensong.

The program is epic – for organ, “Improvisation on the Te Deum” by Charles Tournemire; for virtuosic acapella choir, “Duo Seraphim” by Rihards Dubra and “dopo la vittoria” by Arvo Pärt; and for organ and choir combined, the “Te Deum” itself, by James MacMillan. We’ll also hear the memory of the “Te Deum” chant, beloved by Music of the Baroque Holiday audiences, and sing several beloved hymns together, including “Holy, Holy, Holy” and “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name.”

Robert McConnell plays the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ. Hannah McConnell conducts.
