Solitary Creatures

Jan 1, 2015 | Past Testimonials

As musicians–organists–church musicians–we are rather solitary creatures.  We have spent much of our lives practicing alone.  We are often the only musician on a church staff. The Guild offers the opportunity to find friends who share dreams, disappointments, and triumphs and colleagues who share like careers. Chapter meetings offer opportunities for education, fellowship, and inspiration. Being a part of the AGO makes our solitary lives a lot more fun and a lot less solitary!

One of my favorite experiences as a Guild member is attending Regional and National Conventions.  I find the conventions to be some of the most exhilarating and inspiring experiences I have had as a musician.  It is wonderful to simply forget all of the struggles and frustrations of working in the church and absolutely be immersed in organ music. The performances are always exceptional.  Seeing and hearing a variety of organs in different cities in different parts of the country is fascinating as well as educational.  I always enjoy meeting fellow organists and friends from across the country whom I would rarely see without the opportunity to meet at conventions.

I would encourage anyone who is an organist or has an interest in the organ to join the AGO.  Participating in Guild activities broadens one’s knowledge of organs and organ music and can add some moments of joy and connection in your rather solitary life!
