The temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and had taken two centuries to build. One hundred and twenty seven columns of white marble enclosed an enormous marble statue of the goddess herself. Artemis seemed immortal. Yet she has long since been tossed on the scrap heap of history. With the exception of a few scattered columns on a plain near ancient Ephesus, the last fragments of her temple – a few broken columns and a handful of coins – are now on display in the basement of London’s British Museum.
What a contrast this is to music which, in a sense, feels immortal. Perhaps as I have, you’ve just finished an inspiring, yet exhausting Easter Season. As we downshift just a bit, let’s take time to fully appreciate the creativity of music and the opportunity to bless those around us with our playing. Whether it is a simple children’s song or a Bach Prelude and Fugue, I believe this is just a taste of what we will be enjoying throughout eternity.
Now, back to the day-to-day. Please put our final event of the year on your calendar and join your friends and colleagues for a dinner at my home on June 1st at 5:00 p.m. It will be a great opportunity to meet some new friends and catch up with old ones. We really want you to be there!
Warmly,
Judy
