Dear Friends,
It’s hard to know who to trust and what to believe these days. The Left screams “XYZ”, The Right sneers, “You’re crazy, and so is your Mom.” So it goes out there, all day long, seven days a week. I personally try to stay neutral and find it refreshing that our organ world seems rather free of controversy. No one is slinging disputable facts around and we are free to have our own opinion regarding which composer or piece we think is more pleasing.
Similar to most of you, my days are filled with music. Yet, this pandemic has caused me to also appreciate silence (since I’m home alone a lot more). That sacred space has become one of the more precious parts of my day, forcing a slower pace. It reminds me that life isn’t meant to be rushed, but it takes some discipline to say “no” to opportunities.
I was starting to feel okay about how I was using my time during COVID until I read about Isaac Newton. While quarantined from the plague, he did little things like improving calculus, discovering gravity, and attending to a few other small matters. Oh well!
Life is a balance and we aren’t always going to get it right.
Please stay healthy and safe. Hopefully, you will be able to join us at the next chapter event on February 25th, which you can read about in this newsletter.
Warmly,
Judy Kohl, Dean
