Dean’s Column
May 2020

Dear Friends,

If you are like me, you don’t want to hear one more thing about the present situation with the coronavirus. It seems to be part of most conversations, and of course, naturally so.

Though, I do love the fact that the world has come to our doorstep in the last few months. We share the same shelter-in-place restrictions  not only with those in our own towns, but with those in every corner of the world.

I recently received a video  from my sister who lives in Kenya. Though her church is obviously cancelled as all of ours are, she thought I would be encouraged to see what  other organists and choir directors are doing to bring a beautiful and creative worship experience to their congregations.

I’ve had the privilege of participating in worship in many of these African churches. Most often, the services are filled with spirited indigenous singing and dancing as well as western music like we provide in our own churches.

There is something so beautiful about watching the music flow from the hearts of  this worship team in their make-shift environment. I’ll include a link to this video below.

A lot of you have had to be flexible and make music happen in a different way than you ever imagined.  Since there isn’t a lot going on formally with NSAGO, I thought it might be enjoyable to share what some of you are doing professionally and personally with music. Thank you to those of you who sent me your recordings.

I trust this finds you safe and well. Please  reach out if there is any way we can be there for you.

Warmly,

Judy Kohl
Dean
