According to the July 18, 2020 New York Times, Frederik Chopin was an organist!
This comes as a great shock to the AGO membership! According to the NYT, Chopin, age 15, “was tapped to play the organ during services at a Warsaw church and was famous for his improvisations. People in the pews would sit spellbound as he tore brilliantly through a series of improvised harmonic ideas…”Who knew? How did we organist and scholars miss that? Perhaps Chopin made an album entitled, “Freddy’s Favorites at the Console.”
