Dean’s Column

I like this quote by Martin Luther King that I recently read, “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve.”

Though as a musician, we might be content to just enjoy the experience of learning and performing beautiful music, often our responsibilities entail much more than that. We are also called to serve others.
Congregations, pastoral staff, and church boards have expectations we will create a space for people to express their own worship experience. I find this balance of making music and serving to be helpful in order to have the right perspective in our musical profession.

When you seem to have too many bosses and serving becomes discouraging, remember this other quote, “We should take a lesson from the weather….it pays no attention to criticism.”

Warmly,

Judy Kohl, Dean
