The North Shore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists presented internationally acclaimed organist and recording artist Wolfgang Rübsam in a masterclass on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Evanston, IL. Marianne Kim, and recent graduate of Northern Illinois University, performed the opening movement of Charles-Marie Widor’s Symphonie VI, Op. 42.
Matthew Doran, a graduate of Northern Illinois University and student of Steven Wente at Concordia University Chicago, performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s Piece d’Orgue, BWV 572. Isabella Wu, a student of Brian Schoettler, performed the Andante sostenuto from Widor’s Symphonie Gothique, Op. 70.
Rübsam offered his insights into the performance of the literature for each of the performers and registration of symphonic French organ literature. He also discussed influence of French literature and traditions on the music of J. S. Bach.
