What is sitting on my desk right now…
My printer: I use it constantly to scan and send music in this distant and virtual world. My computer used to sit there but it is downstairs in the living room for zoom meetings. There is a stack of unfiled bills and mail and a stack of books that should be shelved. I also have 3 different stacks of paper for the printer, different weights and whiteness, but they have gotten mixed together so I don’t know which is which! Oh, well, they all work!
If I weren’t doing this…
I’d be practicing the piano or organ. This “retirement” job I took at Winnetka Congregational Church, first as interim and now as organist, close to home, an amazing organ, and only “organist”—no choirs or service planning—took a huge turn when Covid hit. We are taping all of our services for YouTube and it is now a huge job. I’m deeply involved in worship and music planning and taping—which is actually something I love doing. But the timelines are so crazy. This taping does something to my inner life rhythms. I’ve already taped most of the music for Christmas Eve because it takes a lot of time to sync and edit multiple voices and put a complicated service together. Practicing and taping my Christmas Eve prelude and prelude in November is just so confusing! But I won’t be working on Christmas Eve. Can’t imagine how that will feel!!
What I do when I’m not at work…
I help care for my granddaughter who is now 9 years old and doing zoom virtual school.. Someone has to sit with her all the time not to help her academically but to keep her on task. MInecraft and Roblox and music videos are just a touch of the screen away! What a weird world we are living in!
The best advice I ever received…
From my son: Just cool it, Mom!!!
What keeps me motivated to get up in the morning…
Music in any and all forms!
