Someone You Should Know: George Karst

George L. Karst’s musical training includes music theory, composition, pipe organ, and conducting. He is the organist-choirmaster of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dixon, IL. In the past, he has served churches in Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana. George teaches music theory, music history, and piano at a regional Indiana University campus. 

George’s compositions include choral works and chamber music. His techniques include fusing post-tonal harmony to antique polyphonic textures. Additionally George composes electroacoustic music that includes elements of sound synthesis, algorithmic parameters, and retrospectives on Musique concrète. His works appear at various festivals and venues. George lives in Michigan City, Indiana with his wife, Stephanie, two daughters, Theodora and Zoe, and pets.
