Someone You Should Know: Sheran Fiedler

Sheran Fiedler is a long time resident of Evanston, IL.  Although she was born and raised in Washington State and did her undergraduate work in music in Bellingham, WA, she left WA after three years of teaching band and came to Evanston to complete a Masters in Music at NU with an emphasis in vocal/general music teaching.  After finishing her Masters, Sheran taught vocal/general music in Kenilworth, Niles, Glencoe, and Northfield, IL.  Along the way she completed a Ph. D. in Music Education at NU and completed four levels of Orff Schulwerk music pedagogy.  She became an Orff Schulwerk specialist and taught this music pedagogy to music teachers at various colleges and universities in the U.S.  In addition, she presented many workshops in this methodology.  After Sheran retired from full-time teaching, she took on long term music subbing and primary classroom subbing for the next 5 years.

During the early part of Sheran’s teaching career, she was either an organist or a choir director in various north suburban churches.  After joining First Congregational Church of Evanston in 1995, she decided to limit her organ subbing to that church and became an enthusiastic choir member.

Throughout her adult life, Sheran has enjoyed reading, bike riding, working out, and attending operas, ballets, plays, and concerts.  Currently she sings soprano with the North Shore Choral Society and the Chancel Choir of First Congregational Church of Evanston. She volunteers at her church and at the Evanston hospitality center for the homeless.  Over the past 28 years, Sheran has served on many boards and committees at First Congregational Church. Currently she serves on the Board of Trustees.
