Congratulations for Dr. Jay Peterson, one of our chapter members, who presented a workshop at Christ Church of Oak Brook on Friday, Sept 27. It was called, “Keys to the Organ Bench – A practical workshop to hymn playing on the organ for accomplished pianists with limited organ experience.”
The Fox Valley Chapter sponsored this event, asking Jay to cover topics of tempo, a singing hymn melody, articulation, rhythmic lower voices, attention to texts, sympathy for vocal/choral sounds and breathing, organ registration, soloing out hymn tunes, introducing hymns, calculated repeats, easy descants, simple improvisational elements, and resources for enhancing hymn playing at the organ.
