This video might be helpful to the AGO community in the coming months. It describes a strategy we’ve been using at Christ Church, Winnetka, Illinois that has allowed our organist and choir to make music together safely in real time during the pandemic.

Sharon Peterson

I have found that pre recording organ music for worship services, whether on-line and/or with a limited Congregation present during the pandemic, is the safest way to share music. Although collaborative opportunities are very limited, making a simple phone video at the organ is very satisfying and provides hope, inspiration, and comfort to others. (Make sure to honor composers by double-checking copyright permissions.) Do you have other ideas to share?

Phillip Kloeckner, DMA

You are welcome to join Philip for his last three workshops preparing for AGO certification. You can take advantage of the next three sessions. Questions about the series should be directed to phillip@cioa.global or 773-309-1769. Conducted via video conferencing, participants may also choose to play for the class from their home/church pianos or organs as a means of engaging with the subjects more deeply.

The schedule of dates and subjects are as follows:

March 21:

Figured bass: Learn the rudiments of the figured bass system and receive material to practice

April 18:

Adapting piano/orchestral accompaniments to the keyboard: From Ave Maria to Elijah

May 16:

Accompanying anthems, solos, and psalms, with reference to certification requirements

All owners of a book from DARCEY PRESS publications require no added okay for use via zoom.  Zoom church services  are church services, so they are completely okayed repertoire.  That includes using “In Melody and Songs” hymn settings of Isaac Watts texts.  At the bottom of each hymn/setting is an okay for reproduction of the hymn for sacred service use.
