Profile of the Month: Isabella Wu

Isza took the time to answer these questions so we can know her just a bit better:

Let’s get the music question out of the way so we can learn more about the other aspects of your life. Tell us a bit about what you are doing and what your plans are for the near future.

I’m currently finishing up my last year in undergrad at Northwestern, completing degrees in Piano Performance and Communication Studies, while also applying to master’s programs in organ performance at the same time. If the global health crisis abates (fingers crossed), I’m looking forward to live performances and events in the spring before I leave Evanston.

Can’t leave home without?

Checking the weather and considering whether I need to spruce up the mood of the day with anything from my wardrobe.

Best thing about living in the Chicago area?

Getting to see all the shows and music downtown, Lake Michigan, and still being close enough to Wisconsin for cheese curds and Culver’s (I’m originally from Madison, WI).

Is there something you have done while living here that you would never had imagined?

Yes, haha — so many things — but I’ll say learning to skateboard for the sake of brevity.

Favorite hang out?

Pre-pandemic it was Cozy’s. Nowadays it’s exploring downtown Evanston or the outdoors.

What’s on your bookshelf?

Aside from more sheet music than is humanly necessary and all of my recording equipment, some good reads — Kahil Gibran and Thich Nhat Hanh are mainstays, as well as whatever fiction books I pick up from the library.

Before bed, you…?

Wish I had done more that day, resolve to do it tomorrow, and then enjoy the thought of 7.5 hours of rest.

Best advice ever given to you?

Despite all of the advice you may receive, you’re the only person who can make the right decision.

Best advice you’ve given?

You can never go wrong if you are kind to yourself and others.

A perfect day for you?

I think every day has the potential for great happiness…but I always love a day spent with friends. And no practicing!
