THE CONVENTION IS OVER! THE CONVENTION IS OVER! THE CONVENTION IS OVER!

So, it is time to close the book on this exciting week as it now has gone down in the history books except for the thousands of wonderful memories of meeting new and old friends and the incredible number of amazing organ recitals and learning experiences in the several workshops along with a variety of worship services for all.

Just a sampling of the extraordinary comments that have been received about the Great Lakes AGO Regional Convention this past week:

  • An amazing recital with creative repertoire
  • The recital was played with incredible energy
  • The Tuesday evening hymn festival was very inspirational
  • The recital repertoire was incredibly impressive
  • There was such enthusiasm among young organists at workshops

Most people have never heard both and/or either the Poulenc and Guilmant works played in a public performance.

Well, of course now is the time for the several members of the Convention Steering Committee to take a needed break before attempting another Regional Convention! Actually is has been 44 years since the North Shore Chapter AGO hosted the previous regional convention here!!

Please see elsewhere in this issue of “The Overtones” newsletter some pictures from the Regional Convention this past week!

JULY

July is the 7th month of the year in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. July is named by the Roman Senate in honor of the Roman General Julius Caesar in 44 B.C., the month of his birth. Previously this month was generally known as Quintilis. Usually this month is the warmeth in the North Hemisphere and the second month of summer!

“Dog Days” are considered to begin in early July when hot sultry weather of summer usually starts. Spring lambs born in late winter or early spring are generally sold by July 1st.

The July birthstone is the ruby, symbolizing contentment. Flowers for the month are larkspur or the water lily. The Zodiac signs are Cancer and Leo.

Some of the observances this month is the Season of Emancipation usually the 14th of April through August 23rd while Honor America is the 14th of June to July 4th.

The various names for the Full Moon in July are called, the Buck Moon, Thunder Moon, Hay Moon and Wort Moon. Other celebrations obviously include Independence Day and Bastille Day.

Since July is also known as the “National Hot Dog Month” and the “National Ice Cream Month” now is the time for all of our North Shore members to step back and relax for the rest of the summer but know that there is still time to take advantage of numerous workshops, conventions, seminars and other versions of learning experiences to add to your repertoire of musical experiences and while enjoying at hot dog or an ice cream creation!!

ENJOY YOUR SUMMER AND WE HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT A NORTH SHORE EVENT IN THE FALL!!

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Congratulations are in order for Michael C. Gagne as he has recently been notified by National AGO that he has passed the Colleague exam so now he can add the initials CAGO after his name!

In other good news it was exciting to see that the North Shore Chapter AGO did gain a few new members in various categories because of hosing the Great Lakes Regional Convention!
