Recent Event Review: Johann Vexo Concert

The North Shore Chapter, in collaboration with the Chicago Chapter and Loyola University, presented distinguished French organist Johann Vexo in recital on Sunday afternoon, October 20. The concert took place at Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola.

Vexo is Organiste de Choeur at the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Paris; Organist of the Cathedral in Nancy; and Professor of Organ at the Superior Music Academy in Strasbourg.

This performance was Mr. Vexo’s first stop on a tour of the United States that also included stops in Michigan, Washington DC, Alabama, Massachusetts, and Utah.

Nearly two hundred enthusiastic concert-goers were in attendance, including many members of our chapter. The program included virtuosic performances of works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Vierne, Litaize, and Duruflé, all played with stunning technique and superb, nuanced expression. Mr. Vexo received a well-deserved standing ovation at the conclusion of the program and extended his performance by playing the Alain “Litanies” as an encore.

The North Shore Chapter is grateful to our neighbors to the south, the Chicago Chapter and Loyola University, for their collaborative work in making this wonderful concert possible.
