A Festival of Seven Great Classic Hymns for Organ, Brass and Choir

February 23, 2020 at 3:00pm
St. John’s Lutheran
Lombard 215 S. Lincoln Street, Downtown Lombard

The church is located one block west of Main Street, and one block south of the UP Metra line. The Lombard Public Library [and Lilac Park] are on the north side of the church.

Our next Fox Valley AGO gathering will feature seven amazing AGO organists playing seven Great Classic Hymns accompanied on the church’s 40-year-old Zimmer tracker organ. (The 36 rank organ was renovated/restored this past year by Dean Christian and Associates.). The organists for this splendid afternoon program will be Naomi Rowley, Mark Downey, Barbara Masters, Dave Wischmeier, Paul Frese, Daniel Senger, and Kevin Wong, We will be singing (mostly) seasonal hymns—as Ash Wednesday will be three days following this program.

The AGO Festival Choir will be leading some of the hymns. This choir is made up of the choir at St. John’s Church, AND we hope many of you will be interested and available to sing in this group. As always, our Festival Choir is a “pick up” choir made of our AGO members and friends who love singing. (The last time this choir last sang was at our 20th Annual Bach and Beyond program at the Marmion Abbey this past summer, and we had about 50 voices singing). This is your invitation to join us. We will have one rehearsal—that day—at 2:00 in the balcony. Just show up. No robes (no one can see you—you will be in the balcony! Music will be provided.

Also, we will have a professional brass choir and a timpani player who will further enhance the hymn singing.

We hope you will be able to attend, perhaps sing in the Choir, and bring some friends who also like to sing, or who just wish to listen to these great classic hymns downstairs in the sanctuary. If you wish to join the choir, please RSVP to me as we have limited seating in the Choir loft.

This program is co-sponsored by the Artist Series at the church. This is the 14th year of the Artist Series. There will be a Gala Reception following the hymn fest in the Fellowship Hall.
