Regional Convention 2023 Updates
As most of you know by now, with the uncertainties surrounding the pandemic, all five of the AGO regions decided in May to move the 2021 regional conventions to 2023. Our new dates are June 25-28, 2023.
While it’s possible that the gathering of large crowds and group singing will be able to return by next summer, it’s not at all certain. And definitely not certain enough to warrant the hiring of artists, and payment of deposits to a hotel and transportation company for an event that may have to be cancelled. The cost of that was made painfully clear this year with the cancellation of the national convention.
Fortunately, all twelve of the steering committee members for our Great Lakes regional convention have agreed to stay on to plan for 2023! Also fortunately, we were able to negotiate a contract with the Orrington Hotel in Evanston for the 2023 convention with no penalties for the cancellation of the 2021 dates. The steering committee met via Zoom in June, took care of tying up the loose ends, and will meet again a year from now to begin, yet again, the detailed process of planning for our 2023 convention. While we will need to submit a revised budget and program proposal for the 2023 convention, we certainly have a head start with regard to program planning, budget planning, and fundraising!
We’re obviously disappointed that we won’t be hosting the convention next summer, but very pleased with this decision. And you all now have lots of time to think about attending the Great Lakes AGO Convention June 25-28, 2023 – it’s not often that you have so much advance notice for an event!

Among his many accomplishments, Rübsam has been professor of sacred music and organ at Northwestern University, University Organist at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago, and professor of organ at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken, Germany. First Presbyterian Church of Evanston
First Presbyterian organist Rebecca Chu and collaborator Soo Young Kim share their favorite works by Strauss, Beethoven, Verdi, Sousa, Chopin and Liszt in new transcriptions, from quiet reflections to thundering symphonic soundscapes.
This concert will feature First Presbyterian’s Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ (64 ranks & 3265 pipes) and the Steinway & Sons grand piano.
A reception will follow the concert.
Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Hawthorn Woods is pleased to announce the first half of our New Organ Dedication Recital Series!
We are extending an invatation to the North Shore AGO chapter in hopes that some of our members will attend.
Our first concert will be on Sunday September 8th at 3pm with internationally and world renowned concert organist, clinician, composer Dan Miller at 3pm on the newly installed 3 manual 5 division Rodgers Infinity 361.
On Saturday, September 7th fr 10am – 12pm Dan Miller will be presenting an organist’s workshop on registration which is free for local organists and the North Shore AGO Chapter.
Sunday, September 29th at 3pm
Dr. Steve Wente from Concordia University Chicago will perform on the Rodgers Infinity 361 in a concert free to the community.
Sunday, October 27th at 3pm I will be performing a special program that will tie into the Reformation as part of the dedicatory series.
The second half of the season is being prepared and would hope to see as many people as possible for any of these wonderful recitals Saint Matthew’s is offering.
