ABOUT THE CHS MUSIC PROGRAM
The Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, Illinois, seeks an Assistant Organist. The Assistant Organist’s primary role is to accompany the church’s music program and the musical expression of the worshipping congregation. CHS boasts two organs, both by Harrison & Harrison of Durham, England. The main organ has 51 ranks over three manuals. The second organ is a 3-stop continuo instrument.
ORGAN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Accompany the music program for Sunday 9:30 am services and Holy Spirit Choir Wednesday 7:15 pm rehearsals.
• Play for Sunday 7:30 am services, Choral Evensongs, non-choral services including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, etc. Play occasional 9:30 am services with the Holy Spirit Quartet, weddings, or funerals as needed, in Organist/Choirmaster’s absence.
• Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. This role also requires occasional local and international travel, including performing all functions as organist as required in cathedral residencies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Formal training in and understanding of the organ, organ repertoire and sacred music. Excellence in technical and musical expression is a must, including the accompaniment of choirs in anthems, Anglican Chant, and hymns. Experience with the Church calendar and its distinctive liturgical needs.
